Saturday, April 24, 2010

A South Fayette man who told police he bludgeoned and stabbed his wife to death early Friday morning before torching their house was arraigned today in his hospital room.

Robert Dennis Abrams, 40, was arraigned on charges of homicide, arson and abuse of a corpse in his room at UPMC Mercy, where he was being treated for burns to his hands and face.

Mr. Abrams said he got in a fight with his wife Jeanette over "financial matters and his unemployment." He told police Mrs. Abrams was also upset that he was still watching the triple-overtime Penguins/Senators playoff hockey game late into the night.

The fight ended when Mr. Abrams struck his wife several times on the head and then stabbed her in the chest in their bedroom, police said. He later set the home at 110 Locust Lane on fire.
