As expected, Pitt football coach Dave Wannstedt has received a contract extension. An announcement of the new deal will come at 2 p.m. today at a news conference at the South Side football complex.
Wannstedt's current deal runs through the 2012 season but the coach and school had talked about extending it during this offseason for, among other things, recruiting purposes.
It is the second contract extension Wannstedt has received since taking over after the 2004 season.
The Panthers were 16-19 in Wannstedt's first three seasons as coach but turned it around and are 19-7, including two trips to bowl games, over the past two seasons.
