Monday, March 22, 2010

More than 1,000 gallons of a chemical spilled this morning at a Marathon Oil facility in southern Allegheny County.

The spill occurred about 5:20 a.m. near Route 837 in Floreffe and mostly is contained. There have been no evacuations reported or any injuries. Officials have located and stopped the leak.

The chemical reportedly is made up of water, soap and hydrochloric acid.

Absorbent material is being used to keep the spill from reaching a creek that feeds the Monongahela River.
