StarGazing: Moon passes Mars and Saturn
Monday, March 22, 2010

This week, stargazers can observe the waxing moon pass Mars and Saturn as it travels through the southern sky.

Tonight, the first quarter moon will be located in the Milky Way between the horns of Taurus and the feet of Gemini. By Wednesday evening, the waxing gibbous moon will have slid about 30 degrees to the east and sit about 6 degrees to the right of Mars. After traveling through Cancer, stargazers can locate the gibbous moon Friday night 5 degrees to the right of Leo's brightest star Regulus. Finally, after drifting another 30 degrees to the east, the moon will be located Sunday about 8 degrees to the right of Saturn.

Join us this weekend at the Carnegie Science Center for "Space Out! Astronomy Weekend." Check out moon rocks and meteorites, the latest telescopes, and hear about the hottest astronomical news from guest speakers. Hands-on activities are geared for all ages and interest levels, both inside and outside. For more information, log on to www.carnegiesciencecenter.org.
