The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission continued stocking special regulations sections of trout streams, which are open to fishing year round. Select trout-stocked lakes remain open through the end of this month. For a complete stocking schedule, visit www.fishandboat.com.

Lake Erie and tributaries: Beautiful conditions in the tributaries were reported Thursday morning along with high angling pressure and catches of mostly "old" steelhead. Matt Hrycyk of Poor Richard's Bait and Tackle reported about 1 in 5 fish was fresh-run. Ice was just coming off the bay.

Pymatuning Reservoir (Crawford County): Only one angler was seen launching a boat by the causeway Wednesday. Shore anglers were jigging blade baits for walleyes from the shore at the spillway, and catching crappies on minnows off the docks at the marina.

Oil Creek (Venango County): Water was returning to fishable conditions on the stream's two delayed harvest sections Thursday. Early Black Stoneflies were coming off the smaller streams and expected to appear on Oil Creek.

Lake Wilhelm (Mercer County): The open water around Sheakleyville Bridge was yielding a mixed bag of perch and bluegills. One boater in the same area released a 20-inch largemouth bass.

Neshannock Creek (Mercer County): The delayed harvest section had fished well in recent days and had a nice green color and flow Thursday. Neshannock Creek Fly Shop will float stock "lunker" trout at 1 p.m. Sunday. This was postponed from last week, when the creek was high and muddy.

Lake Arthur (Butler County): Some ice remained Wednesday. Shore anglers were fishing some open water under the Rte. 528 bridge and along the shoreline in Muddy Creek arm. A few crappies and largemouth bass were reported. Spawning northern pike were reported in the shallows. Open water was expected by the weekend.

Allegheny River: High, muddy water was reported Wednesday, but the river was beginning to return to normal. The mouth of Deer Creek was yielding walleyes up to 20 inches and saugers. The Cheswick side of Lock 3 also was producing walleyes and saugers to the few boaters who were on the water Wednesday. Anglers are reminded that walleye and sauger are out of season until May, and all catches must be released unharmed.

Ohio River: Fishing pressure this week was light; high water kept them away from the dams, which typically provide the best action. Catch rates were low.

Loyalhanna Creek (Westmoreland County): The Fish and Boat Commission stocked the Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only section Wednesday, and anglers were on the water Thursday. The stocking had been slated for the previous week, but conditions were too high and muddy. Water was a nice color and flow yesterday.

Meadow Run (Fayette County): High, clear conditions were reported last weekend.

High Point Lake (Somerset County): Two anglers squeezed one final day out of ice fishing Monday, but encountered up to 7 inches of slush on top of ice at this lake, which has the highest elevation among impoundments in Pennsylvania. They caught a 27-inch northern pike, a 19-inch largemouth bass, and a chain pickerel about 20 inches, all three with sizeable girth.
