Mark Singel -- another challenger for Murtha's seat?
Thursday, February 18, 2010

Former Lt. Gov. Mark Singel is holding a press conference in Johnstown tomorrow morning to address whether he'll join the Democratic field vying to replace John Murtha in the 12th Congressional District.

Mr. Singel, a Johnstown native, has been one of the bigger names mentioned as a possible replacement for the late congressman, along with Mr. Murtha's widow Joyce, Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Ceraso and former Auditor General Barbara Hafer, who made her interest official Monday. State Sen. John Wozniak, D-Johnstown, announced yesterday he would not run.

Republican candidates include Army veteran Bill Russell, of Johnstown, and businessman Tim Burns, of Eighty Four.

Mr. Singel served as lieutenant governor from 1987 through 1995 under Gov. Robert P. Casey Sr. He currently runs the Winter Group lobbying firm.

The announcement is at 10:30 a.m. at the Market Street Holiday Inn.
