United Steelworkers endorse Onorato
Thursday, February 18, 2010

The United Steelworkers endorsed Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato for governor on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, his Democratic rival, Auditor General Jack Wagner, received the official support of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association, which said that Mr. Wagner "has a well established record in public service and what it takes to navigate our state through the difficult waters ahead."

Members of the local restaurant industry have been critical of Mr. Onorato over his support for the drink tax used to provide the county's share of mass transit funding.

The USW announcement follows several other labor endorsements Mr. Onorato has received in his bid for the Democratic nomination. A statewide Teamsters group gave him their backing earlier this month and three large local unions of the SEIU endorsed him last week.
