The South Side's Neville Ice Arena, empty since 2001, has collapsed under the weight of last week's snow, city officials confirmed today, and will be demolished.
The collapse occurred over the past 48 hours, said Public Works Director Rob Kaczorowski. The arena was shuttered after a private operator did not live up to the terms of his lease, and was then vandalized to the extent that city administrators have failed to figure out how to reuse it. It was briefly considered as a possible replacement for the dilapidated South Hills maintenance shed in the Bon Air neighborhood.
"It needs to be [demolished]," said Mr. Kaczorowski.
