The Penn Hills School District has accepted the offer of striking teachers to return to work Wednesday.
That would bring the strike to a close one day earlier than required by the state for students to have 180 days of instruction by June 15. Teachers went on strike on Feb. 4.
"This is no indication that we are closer to an agreement. It's a gesture to all parties that we want this thing resolved," said Butch Santicola, spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the local union, in a statement.
"We hope the board and community recognize that this decision did not come easily," he said.
In response to the teachers' announcement, the district issued a statement saying classes will resume Wednesday, weather permitting.
