Meadows postpones another round of job 'auditions'
Monday, February 08, 2010

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is rolling snake eyes in trying schedule auditions for table game jobs.

The Washington County casino postponed another job fair scheduled for Tuesday as the region still recovers from last weekend's snow, and as another storm approaches.

"With people still recovering from this weekend's storm, and another storm approaching, this is the time to focus on the safety of our employees, guests, emergency crews and surrounding communities," said Sean Sullivan, The Meadows' vice president and general manager.

The Meadows previously has postponed a job fair scheduled last Saturday at the Holiday Inn Washington-Meadow Lands, 340 Racetrack Road near the casino, to this Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Now the job fair scheduled for tomorrow will be rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the same location.

Officials at the casino have been billing the job fair as a "talent search" and have encouraged applicants to "audition" for dealer jobs by doing tricks, singing, telling jokes or performing other types of entertainment for 30 seconds. Those who impress casino officials will be invited to a table games school later this year.

Because of last weekend's snowstorm, The Meadows was forced to close from 5 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. It was the first time since the casino opened in 2007 that it had closed, spokesman David La Torre said.
