Three adults charged in extensive BB gun vandalism
Saturday, February 06, 2010

Bored vandalism suspects who used BB guns to cause more than $10,000 in vehicle and property damage in December face felony charges in connection with incidents in Stowe, McKees Rocks and some Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

Three suspects were arrested Wednesday. They are Johnette Freiberger, 28, of McKees Rocks; Paul A. McIntyre, 27, of Beaver Falls; and his sister, Patricia N. McIntyre, 26, of Stowe.

A fourth suspect, Tyrone Shackelford, 17, and Mr. McIntyre were arrested Thursday in an unrelated case in which they are charged with aggravated assault and two counts each of conspiracy and robbery.

Mr. McIntyre, upon his arrest, told police they were "being stupid and bored" on Dec. 4, when the vandalism incidents were reported.

McKees Rocks police Chief Robert Cifrulak did not include the 17-year-old in initial police reports. But the other suspects said he is the boyfriend of Patricia McIntyre and that he fired shots as well.

Ms. Freiberger said she was only the driver.

According to a police affidavit, the two couples went out late on Dec. 3 to a Kmart store in Moon where two BB guns were stolen.

The driver, a mother of two, said she left her children with an aunt while they rode in her car through Stowe, McKees Rocks and Pittsburgh's Sheridan neighborhood.

The spree was conducted mostly after midnight and into Dec. 4.

Around 2:30 a.m., Ms. Freiberger picked up her children, and, on the way home, more shots were fired by her passengers.

Fifty-four automobiles were damaged, as well as two houses and a business front.

A witness told police the couples had been seen outside Ms. Freiberger's residence on Fair Oaks Street in McKees Rocks. One of her neighbor's house windows had been shot out, the police affidavit said.

Another witness told investigators in late December that Ms. Freiberger admitted to her role and the other suspects' parts in the vandalism.

Ms. Freiberger and the McIntyres were arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Mary Ann Cercone in McKees Rocks, where preliminary hearings are scheduled on Tuesday.

Ms. Freiberger had been arrested Jan. 11 in Pittsburgh in an unrelated case in which she is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, burglary and conspiracy. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on these counts March 3 in Municipal Court.

In the vandalism case she is charged with conspiracy, criminal mischief, both felony counts, as well as possession and/or use of an air rifle, and possession of an instrument of crime.

The McIntyres face identical charges as Ms. Freiberger, as well as two counts of child endangerment.
