Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa., today announced Dr. James C. White II has been named vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.
Dr. White has served as interim provost, vice provost and associate professor of physics at Gettysburg College.
He succeeds Dr. Jan Czechowski, who will remain as part of the W&J faculty.
Dr. White has a bachelor's degree in physics from Birmingham-Southern College and a master's degree and doctorate in astronomy from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Dr. White had been on the staff at Gettysburg since 2006, serving as interim provost since 2008. Previously, he was editor of "Mercury" magazine for the Astronomical Society of the Pacific in San Francisco.
