Allegheny Energy profits increase

Allegheny Energy reported fourth-quarter profits of $109.3 million, or 64 cents per share, compared with $16.2 million, or 10 cents a share in the year-ago period.

For the year, the Greensburg electric utility posted $392.8 million in profits, or $2.31 per share, compared with $395.4 million, or $2.33 per share, in 2008.
