CCAC plans to award honorary degree to Obama
Thursday, February 04, 2010

The White House hasn't said if President Barack Obama will accept an invite to the Community College of Allegheny County's spring commencement, but if he shows there will be an honorary degree waiting with his name on it.

Trustees at the college this afternoon voted unanimously to award him an honorary Associate of Arts in Humane Letters degree at the May 13 ceremony in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The resolution cited the president's personal achievements and his work supporting community colleges.

The college will award the degree whether he attends the ceremony or not.

"We recognize what he's done for community colleges," said Trustees Chairman Thomas Santone. "We want to reciprocate."
