Pittsburgh City Council gave final approval Tuesday to Mount Washington zoning changes that streamline construction of a hotel and condominiums on land including the site of the former Edge restaurant.
The city Planning Department still must approve the development plan for the One Grandview complex before construction can start, said Beau Beemsterboer, son of the Chicago-based developer Steve Beemsterboer. The developer will focus this year on gaining that approval, preparing the site and demolishing the dilapidated restaurant building.
Groundbreaking on the 115-room hotel and 55 condos would occur next year. A spa, fitness center, meeting place and 500-car parking garage also are planned. Total investment is expected to approach $100 million.
