A part-time police officer in Indiana County who is facing charges that he gave alcohol to teens during a raucous party last month has been suspended from his job.
Ethan Sorbin-Randolph, 21, who also serves on the local school board, has been suspended without pay, effective Tuesday, from the Homer City Police Department.
Borough council voted 5-0 last night for the suspension, pending resolution of the case against him.
The officer's position is unclear with the Homer-Center school board, where he has served since December 2007, said Superintendent Ben Delconte.
The school board issued a statement Wednesday suggesting Officer Sorbin-Randolph consider resigning.
Officer Sorbin-Randolph was charged Wednesday by summons with providing alcohol to minors, including those older and younger than 18. And he is charged with witness intimidation in the complaint that alleges he told his former girlfriend, also a teen, to say he had been at the party for only a short time.
The girl said he gave her alcohol and told her to tell investigators nothing about the party.
Two other people, Courtney Coleman, 22, and Eric Skedel, 20, who hosted the Jan. 23 party at his home in Indiana Borough, face similar charges.
Indiana police Chief William Sutton said 33 teens also were cited at the scene, or soon after, with underage drinking.
Police began investigating after an officer saw someone appearing to try to break into Mr. Skedel's residence.
The suspect fled inside the house as the officer approached, and he and the other adults ordered all of the teens to hide in the basement or other spots throughout the house.
Police said some of the teens jumped from windows and tried to walk past the officers outside the front door before a warrant was obtained to search the residence.
Those who tried to leave were detained and cited at the scene. Others were found hiding throughout the residence, in closets and crawl spaces, with several in the basement where they said Mr. Skedel had locked them inside.
Hearings for the three adults involved are to be scheduled before District Judge Guy B. Haberl in Indiana.
