Catholic Schools Week/South
Thursday, February 04, 2010

The Diocese of Pittsburgh is celebrating Catholic Schools Week through Saturday with activities highlighting the theme, "Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life."

"For almost two centuries, the diocese has made a major investment in the life of each of our students and their families, giving them all they need to become faith-filled disciples of Christ," Bishop David A. Zubik said.

Catholic schools locally and nationally -- more than 2.1 million students attend the nation's 7,250 Catholic schools -- are celebrating by hosting school, parish and community events.

Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh are the fourth-largest school district of any type in the state, with 108 schools serving the six-county Diocese of Pittsburgh, encompassing about 24,000 students and about 1,800 teachers.

Last year, more than 97 percent of Catholic high school graduates went on to post-secondary education.
