A Pittsburgh police officer accused of fondling a woman he was supposed to take to jail went on trial today on charges of indecent assault.
Dewayne Curtis Hart, 46, responded to the woman's home on a burglary report on Dec. 7, 2007, after she called 911.
According to investigators, Officer Hart took the report and left the woman's home. A few minutes later, though, he walked back and asked her if she knew there was a warrant for her arrest for robbery and assault.
Officer Hart then told her he could take her to jail but added, "The only thing keeping me back is your cookies." When she asked what he meant, he reached inside her shirt and fondled her, an affidavit said. The officer then grabbed her hand and made her fondle him.
The officer drove away, saying he would be back to take her to jail the next morning. She ran to her sister's house then called 911 and reported what happened.
The trial, before Allegheny County Judge Joseph K. Williams III, will resume this afternoon.
Officer Hart was reassigned to the records department after the charges were filed.
