T.J. McConnell kept a WPIAL record in-house -- and he did it in style.
McConnell set a career high for 3-pointers in a game with 10 Tuesday and in the process broke a WPIAL record held by a Chartiers Valley alum.
McConnell has 304 for his career, two more than Mike Colbert had from 1994-98.
"I think it will be a bigger deal after the season when he realizes what he did," Chartiers Valley coach and T.J.'s father Tim McConnell said. "But right now, he's more worried about the team and I appreciate that."
McConnell, who was 10 for 15 from 3-point range, had 49 points to give him 1,962 points in his career.
The No. 2 team in the Post-Gazette's WPIAL Class AAA, the Colts (17-1, 10-0) clinched the outright Section 4 title with a 101-64 victory against visiting Keystone Oaks (4-14, 1-8).
Anthony Dallier and Anton Constantino had 21 points apiece as North Allegheny (14-4, 7-2) turned a Section 3 showdown with Class AAAA No. 2 Butler (14-3, 7-3) into a laugher, 92-64. The visiting Tigers' previous season high for points was 73.
Tom Droney had 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second quarter, which was when Class A No. 1 Sewickley Academy (15-2, 7-0) outscored No. 4 Cornell (13-5, 5-2) by the difference of the game (25-10) in a 62-47 Section 4 win.
Chaquille Pratt gave Class A No. 3 Lincoln Park its first lead since early in the game with less than a minute to play with his only 3-pointer as the Leopards (13-5, 6-0) won, 56-51, in Section 1 at Union (12-4, 2-3). Pratt had a game-high 30 points.
Hampton's Bill Luther had 24 points to give him 1,008 in his career, part of a 73-45 Class AAA Section 1 win for the No. 1-ranked Talbots (16-1, 10-0) at Kittanning (6-11, 0-9).
Aaron Johnson of Moon had 22 points and 15 rebounds in surpassing 1,000 career points. He has 1,012 after leading the Tigers (11-8, 5-5) to a 75-46 Class AAA Section 4 win against visiting South Park (6-12, 2-7).
