High School Highlights: Indiana defeats Mount Pleasant

Fresh off its first loss of the season, Class AAA No. 3 Indiana began a new winning streak Monday with a 41-32 triumph against No. 5 Mount Pleasant in Section 3.

The host Little Indians (17-1, 10-0) got 12 points apiece from Marita Mathe and Leslie Stapleton en route to their 25th consecutive section win.

Nicole Malara scored 14 points and Shelby Way added 11 for the Vikings (14-3, 7-2), who had won seven in a row.

Indiana, which lost a non-section game against Mercyhurst Prep Saturday, defeated Mount Pleasant, 57-36, earlier this season.

Other top girls' games

• Sidney Grabigel's 16 points helped Highlands (11-7, 5-3) strengthen its playoff hopes with a 52-44 win against visiting Mars (9-9, 6-4) in Class AAA Section 1. Alexa Lee had four 3-pointers and scored 21 points for Mars.

• Beth-Center (14-3, 9-0) remained perfect in Class AA Section 5 after a 45-38 win at Charleroi (11-4, 7-3). Anna Shashura scored 14 points and Megan Sowers added 11 for Beth-Center.

One-sided showdowns

• Class AAAA No. 3 Butler (12-5, 10-0) coasted to the Section 3 title after routing visiting North Allegheny (13-5, 6-3), 70-45. Florida State recruit Olivia Bresnahan had 21 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds for Butler. Alexis Aiken paced the Tigers with 17.

• Hopewell (18-0, 7-0) had little trouble against visiting Blackhawk (12-5, 4-3) in Class AAA Section 1, as the top-ranked Vikings raced to a 80-44 win. Paige Alviani led Hopewell with five 3-pointers and 27 points. Teammate Elise Farris scored 20 of her 24 points in the second half, when the Vikings outscored the Cougars, 57-23.

On a roll

• Lauren Arbogast scored 16 points and Madison Cable added 13 to lead Class AAAA No. 1 Mt. Lebanon (17-2, 11-0) to its 12th consecutive victory, 50-33 against visiting Peters Township (9-10, 6-5) in Section 4. The Blue Devils, ranked No. 11 in the nation by USA Today, have held 11 of their past 12 opponents to fewer than 40 points.

Finishing strong

• Serra (9-6, 7-2) outscored visiting Fort Cherry (13-4, 9-1) by 15 in the fourth quarter, rallying to defeat the visiting Rangers, 42-34, in Class A Section 2. Taylor Minkus scored 14 points for the Eagles, who previously had lost two in a row, including a seven-point decision at Fort Cherry.

Stars of the night

• Natalie Corso shed some light on Moon's struggles, connecting on seven 3-pointers among her 26 points to spark the Tigers (4-15, 3-7) past visiting Pine-Richland (6-12, 2-7), 49-45, in Class AAAA Section 3. Corso scored 12 of Moon's 17 points in the fourth quarter.

• Molly Stuvek's gigantic effort helped Carmichaels (13-4, 8-1) earn a big Class A Section 3 win at California (10-7, 7-3), 46-28. Stuvek finished with 23 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.
