Education

Duquesne University has established an office of government relations to serve as the main liaison between the university and local, state and federal government and agencies. Michelle Castro was named director of government relations.

Glenn F. Smartschan was named president of Adelphoi Education Inc., a service of Adelphoi USA.

Engineering

Jerry V. DeRosa, was elected vice president-president elect to the Three Rivers Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers. Mr. DeRosa is an environmental division manager, Pennoni Associates' Monroeville office.

Investment Services

Federated Investors Inc. appointed James E. Grefenstette, senior portfolio manager of Federated Mid Cap Growth Strategies Fund.

Law

Roberto Capriotti and Scott E. Mooney were named partners in the Pittsburgh office of K&L Gates. Mr. Capriotti focuses on intellectual property law, including high-technology patents, trademarks and copyrights. Mr. Mooney concentrates on estate and tax planning.

Nonprofit

Pressley Ridge named Beth Blair vice president of finance and accounting and Denise Sedlacek vice president of educational services.

Erroline M. Williams, manager, professional development and outreach, School of Leadership and Professional Advancement, Duquesne University, joined the board of Dress for Success Pittsburgh.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh elected these officers for 2010: President: James Ross, chairman, Kenny Ross Automotive Group; secretary: Maggie Sullivan, principal leadership development director, Pittsburgh Public Schools; treasurer: Gregory Burd, partner, Keystone Investment Advisors. Valley Care Association named Elizabeth Moore to its board of trustees. Ms. Moore is the advanced illness coordinator for Heritage Valley Health System. She also is an ethicist with Life Beaver and Providence Nursing Home.

Kathi Finch joined Valley Care Association as marketing and sales manager.

Sal Greco was elected a board member to the North Hills Arts Center.

Metro Family Practice named Peter Vercilla executive director.
