A Munhall woman who served federal prison time for a 1990s embezzlement scheme at her old employer was sentenced Friday to a year in federal prison in connection with the theft of checks from her new employer, Reliant Resources.
After a five-day trial in June in which 11 witnesses testified against her, Michelle A. Lewis, 47, pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen property and tax evasion.
IRS agents said she embezzled $55,000 from Reliant in the form of two checks she stole from the company and deposited into her personal bank account in 2002. Agents said she also did not report the income from the checks.
In 2002, Ms. Lewis was sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from Graciano Corp. At the time of the crimes beginning in 1995, she was the supervisor for accounts payable and receivable for GMS Corp., which handled the payroll for Graciano, Grane Associates and other local companies.
She was fired in 1999 when GMS discovered the losses.
