The state Department of Transportation continued to detour traffic around flooded roadways Downtown this evening as officials waited for floodwaters to recede.
PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said the department will know later tonight if the roadways will be open tomorrow morning and said crews would be working overnight to pump out the floodwater and clean up the sludge on the roads.
The state Department of Transportation closed the inbound Parkway East in the "bathtub area" Downtown because of flood water from the Monongahela River at around 9 a.m. this morning.
Traffic remains detoured at the Grant Street exit inbound, then onto Fort Pitt Boulevard to Stanwix Street and back to the highway. Alternately, inbound traffic can exit at the Boulevard of the Allies ramp to the Liberty Bridge.
Also this morning, PennDOT closed the interstate connector ramp from the southbound Fort Duquesne Bridge to the outbound Parkway East.
The 10th Street Bypass also is closed by flooding along the Allegheny River. Fort Duquesne Boulevard or Liberty Avenue should be used as alternate routes.
River Road in McKeesport also remains closed due to flooding.
River Road is closed from the 10th Ward ramp off of the Jerome Street Bridge to the 15th Street Bridge.
