City to block off section of Rialto Street in Troy Hill
Thursday, January 21, 2010

City attempts to close a segment of Rialto Street in Troy Hill haven't been effective, so beginning tomorrow, the section of the street that intersects Route 28 will be blocked off with concrete barriers.

Council President Darlene Harris said the steep street is hazardous during the winter, and previous attempts to temporarily shut it during snowy periods using wooden barriers weren't effective.

"[In] the last accident that happened on that hill, a car actually turned upside down," she said. "And it does right into the highway."

Ms. Harris said people were moving the wooden barriers in order to use the road.

"If the horses were left alone, everything would have been fine and good," she said.

Instead, concrete barriers will be placed at the top and bottom of the hill.

The street should reopen sometime in March when the weather improves.
