Q: What is Jamie Dixon's game plan to defend Greg Monroe and the Hoyas? Austin Freeman is their leading scorer, but all I keep hearing about is Monroe.
Phil, Phoenix
FITTIPALDO: Monroe plays power forward mostly, but he does move to center when Julian Vaughn comes out of the game. The plan is for Nas Robinson and Gil Brown to defend him when he plays power forward and for Gary McGhee and Dante Taylor to guard him when he plays center. Monroe, who is 6 feet 11, has a decided height advantage against Robinson and Brown, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Monroe is a very difficult matchup. What makes Georgetown a difficult team to defend is its balanced scoring throughout the lineup. If Pitt pays too much attention to Monroe, Freeman, who is averaging 15.9 points per game and shooting 45.9 percent from 3-point range, can hurt you. So can point guard Chris Wright and guard Jason Clark. I think you hear more about Monroe because he is a well-rounded player who does not have to score to be effective. He averages 10.1 rebounds per game and almost four assists per game.
