Ravenstahl to decide today on police union contract approval
Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said yesterday that he will decide today whether to put his stamp of approval on a five-year contract with the Fraternal Order of Police.

"We've had good discussions, but we have not yet reached an agreement," he said. "We have to protect the interests of the city financially, and we'll do that."

The statement came a day after FOP leaders said that a deal had been reached. Any agreement has to go before the state-appointed Act 47 Recovery Team. If that team accepts a pact, it goes to FOP membership for a vote. If the team rejects a contract, it goes to binding arbitration Feb. 8 and 9.
