In a rematch of the WPIAL Class A girls' basketball championship game last year, Kendall Hoffman had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Trojanettes (8-2, 3-0) to a 73-45 victory against the visiting Lions (3-5, 1-3).
North Catholic, ranked No. 1 in WPIAL Class A by the Post-Gazette, improved to 9-0 against Mount Alvernia since moving down to Class A in 2006-07.
Tara Gallupe had 13 points and 14 rebounds as Class AA No. 2 Avonworth (10-0, 3-0) nipped No. 3 Sto-Rox, 37-35, in Section 6. Kori Ford's 10 points led the host Vikings (8-3, 3-1).
Chaniece Tarpley had 18 points as Charleroi (6-1) won a non-section game between two first-place teams, 60-46, against visiting California (6-3).
Beka Bellhy made two important free throws in overtime as Fort Cherry (7-3, 4-0) held on to first place in Class A Section 2 with a 42-41 victory at Chartiers-Houston (5-3, 1-1). Johnna McGivern's 15 points led the Rangers.
Paige Alviani had 15 of her 19 points in the second half to lead Class AAA No. 2 Hopewell (10-0, 1-0) to a 58-56 victory at Section 2 rvial Blackhawk (6-3, 1-1).
Laurel Lindsay had 14 of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter as South Park (7-3, 2-1) came from behind to avoid an upset at West Allegheny (2-7, 0-3), 51-48, in Class AAA Section 4.
Leah Hurst of East Allegheny (2-7, 1-3) has 1,000 career points after scoring 28 in a 53-52 overtime loss to Class AA Section 4 foe Shady Side Academy (4-6, 3-2).
Tess Zufall had a career high with 27 points before halftime, going 7 for 10 from 3-point range, finishing with 32 points as Class AA No. 1 Greensburg Central Catholic (8-0, 5-0) beat host South Allegheny (0-7, 0-4), 67-24, in Section 4.
The final unbeaten in Class AAA, No. 4-ranked Belle Vernon (8-1, 2-1), lost at home to Thomas Jefferson, 64-57, in Section 5. Jimmy Giansante had 17 points to lead the Jaguars (6-4, 2-1).
Bobby Bredniak's 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in overtime lifted host Avella (2-5) to a 54-52 victory against non-section foe Geibel (2-4). Joe Yamber led the Eagles with 19 points and converted a tying layup with one second left in regulation.
