Braddock agency wins $1.4 million job training grant
Wednesday, January 06, 2010

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a $1.4 million grant to Heritage Community Initiatives in Braddock to train people in green jobs over the next two years.

Bob Grom, the COE of Heritage Community Initiatives, formerly Heritage Health Foundation, said the jobs will reflect the market. People who sign up will be trained either in weatherization, environmentally sound land reuse and storm water management and "deconstruction," which is taking down buildings so that the materials can be reused.

The training that will be offered at any time will reflect the jobs that employers have said are needed.

Mr. Grom said the program will begin almost as soon as the grant money comes through.
