Thursday, December 31, 2009

A man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle yesterday on an icy road in Clearfield County.

David E. Hill, 72, of Cherry Tree, was traveling north on state Route 219 at 12:10 a.m. when he lost control on a left-hand curve, according to state police. His car spun and went into the oncoming lane, where it struck another vehicle.

Mr. Hill, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown into the passenger seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clearfield County assistant deputy coroner.

The driver of the other car, Edward W. Sroka, 52, of Somerset, was injured in the accident. He was taken to Conemaugh Hospital.

State police are investigating, but said no charges will be filed.
