Weather forecasts said a new storm system could move into the region late tonight and bring with it more snow.

Tonight, foercasts call for a chance of rain mixed with snow during Pittsburgh's "First Night" celebration. However, things could deteriorate markedly after midnight. Forecasts call for another storm system to move into the region, and the mix of rain and snow will turn entirely to snow, leaving about an inch or more of fresh snow before tapering off by morning.

More information

Later tomorrow, the snow is expected to pick up and then combine with wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.

Very early today, a winter storm dumped several inches of snow, causing some problems for the day's first commuters who also had to contend with limited visibility. Morning rush-hour motorists had to share the roads with crews trying to plow and spread salt.

At one point, the fast-moving large storm covered nearly the entire state as it continued east and then away from the East coast by early afternoon. Total accumulation was from one to three inches with the most snow being reported in the higher altitudes.

Highs today are expected to be in the mid- to upper-30s.
