Don't blame NFL scheduling for the Steelers' predicament

Question: Don't you agree with my thought that the NFL did no justice to the Steelers by moving the Bengals-Jets start time to 8:30 p.m. this coming Sunday? The reason is that if New England beats Houston in the 1 p.m. game, the Bengals have nothing to play for and will simply mail it in and lose to assure that Steelers don't make the playoffs.

-- Walter Nick, New York City

BOUCHETTE: Yes, the league did not do the Steelers any favors by moving that game, but it is a minor thing and I'm sure that never entered anyone's thoughts when they moved that game; they merely want to get the best matchup and ratings possible. It was possible that if they had moved the Steelers-Dolphins game, that would have been rendered completely meaningless by earlier results. New England gets the third seed if it wins and the Bengals would likely rest some players, especially since they must enter the playoffs the following weekend after a Sunday night game. But the Steelers had many chances for it not to come to this and they did not do it.
