Extract

2 stars = Mediocre
Ratings explained
Mike Judge comedy starring Jason Bateman as the owner of a flavor-extract factory who is about to retire when a freak workplace accident sets a series of disasters into motion. Although the cast is smartly eclectic, with an overreliance on jokes about a "mid-body injury," the comedy is occasionally amusing but rarely provokes spontaneous, hearty laughs.

It Might Get Loud

2 stars = Mediocre
Ratings explained
"It Might Get Loud": Three guitar virtuosos -- The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) and Jack White (The White Stripes) -- recount the development of their sound in this rock doc that falls a little short on musical fireworks once they get in the same room.

All About Steve

1 star = Awful
Ratings explained
"All About Steve": Sandra Bullock is an eccentric crossword puzzle constructor who, after one short blind date, falls for a cable news cameraman (Bradley Cooper) and follows him across the country. Unfortunately, it's unfunny, annoying, badly written and badly acted.

TV on DVD: "Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Darkside"; "The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Season Three"; "Taxi: The Final Season."
