North Fayette supervisors last night adopted a $9.56 million budget for next year that raises the property tax rate from 3.2 to 3.9 mills.
The 0.7-mill tax increase will cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $70 a year.
The approved tax rate is higher than the half-mill anticipated in the earlier proposed budget because of some expenses not originally foreseen, including an estimated $80,000 to repair a leak in the Hankey Farms swimming pool, Manager Bob Grimm said.
A 3 percent wage increase for 19 fulltime police officers was included in the budget, based on a three-year collective bargaining agreement also approved last night.
The officers' salaries next year will range from about $65,000 to $83,000, depending on rank and years of service.
