In the Frame is an occasional Post-Gazette video series on artists and the arts scene in Pittsburgh.
Chatham Baroque, Pittsburgh's excellent early-music ensemble, enjoys an international reputation due to its touring and many recordings. The group consisting of Andrew Fouts on baroque violin, Patricia Halverson on viola da gamba and Scott Pauley on theorbo/lute/guitar brings in visiting artists to complement different programs.
This weekend, Chatham Baroque welcomes Sherezade Panthaki, violinist Erika Cutler and harpsichordist Andrew Appel for the holiday-themed program, highlighted by a lesser-known work by Handel. His Gloria, re-discovered in 2001, is a bright and brilliant cantata for soprano that is perfect for Advent. Pantahaki has a pure timbre with a flair for the Italian ornaments -- which also fits the season.
The first concert of the weekend is catered at St. James Parish in Sewickley tonight at 7 p.m., with tickets $50. The traditional concerts are at 8 p.m. Saturday at Synod Hall, Oakland, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Laughlin Music Center, Chatham University, with tickets $27.
