Allegheny County police are searching for a 24-year-old man in connection with a March fatal shooting in Clairton.
Jivonte Butler, of Duquesne, didn't show up for a preliminary hearing today at the office of District Judge Armand Martin on charges of tampering with evidence and making false reports to police.
According to a criminal complaint, Mr. Butler and Monte Brookins, 22, exchanged gunfire after fighting at a home in the 900 block of Vankirk Street in Clairton on March 4.
Both men were injured and later treated at UPMC Presbyterian.
While at the hospital, the complaint said, Mr. Butler repeatedly told county homicide detectives that he had been shot while leaving a club in Duquesne, even though his wallet, clothing and driver's license had been found at the Vankirk shooting scene.
Police discovered a firearm used by Mr. Brookins in a bedroom in the house, but Mr. Butler's gun wasn't found.
Mr. Brookins died from his wounds March 13.
