Where to go ... Quehanna Trail
Sunday, December 13, 2009

What to do: You can't quite appreciate the Pennsylvania Wilds -- the largely undeveloped northcentral part of the state -- until you see it on foot. The Quehanna Trail loops through 75 miles in Moshannon and Elk State Forests, passing through some of Pennsylvania's most beautiful country. The trail starts at Parker Dam State Park near Dubois, rolling east through the Quehanna Wild Area, north toward Sinnemahoning, west into the Marion Brooks Natural Area and back to Parker Dam. Cross-connector trails add 30 miles. Maps available at Parker Dam show parts of the connectors leaving the page and returning -- be aware that they're long hauls and not day hikes.

Contact: Parker Dam State Park, 814-765-0630.
