Generosity generates toys for needy children
Saturday, December 12, 2009

Tens of thousands of needy children are counting on the generosity of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette readers to brighten their Christmases.

The goal of the Goodfellows Fund is to make sure that every child has a toy under the tree on Christmas morning. Your donations support the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, which will distribute thousands of toys to needy children this holiday season, and Beginning With Books, which provides high-quality, educational books to children 8 and younger.

Please help. Make a tax-deductible donation to Goodfellows by using the coupon on this page, or online by visiting post-gazette.com/goodfellows.

Every donation will be acknowledged in the newspaper.

How to get toys

The Toys for Tots program will hold open houses next week to distribute toys to parents and guardians of needy children.

Toys will be given out at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh building at 420 Boulevard of the Allies, Downtown, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 18 and 19.

Those wishing to obtain toys should be accompanied by their children or bring documentation of the children's ages (for example, birth certificates or insurance cards) and proof of government assistance.
