Pedestrian killed in Canonsburg identified
Wednesday, December 09, 2009

A Washington County pedestrian killed last night in a traffic accident has been identified as John Janda, 38, of Canonsburg.

Mr. Janda was struck by a car at about 7 p.m. as he crossed West Pike Street in Canonsburg, police Chief Richard Bell said.

Investigators said the driver, who is not charged in the accident, likely did not see the victim because it was dark and raining on a street that is not well lighted.

Police have withheld the name of the woman, of Houston, pending further investigation by a state police reconstruction specialist.

The driver, traveling east on West Pike Street, had been stopped at a traffic light that turned green.

As she proceeded, Mr. Janda, wearing dark clothing, walked into her path, Chief Bell said.

He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m.
