High school renovation in Mars Area progressing
Wednesday, December 09, 2009

Renovation of Mars Area High School is "progressing very well," board members were told last night by John Hayes, construction manager.

The Mars Area School District is adding on and renovating its 49-year-old high school.

Administrators should be moving into their new quarters in the next three or four weeks. The large group instruction room and the pre-engineering and robotics classrooms are also nearly finished, Mr. Hayes said.

The brick is completed and the roof trusses installed for the two-story addition, and the windows are being put in, he added.

Rooms in the addition are not typical of schools, he said.

"They're huge. I think you're going to be very pleased."

Also last night, Kim Geyer was reelected president of the Mars Area school board.

J. Dayle Ferguson was elected vice-president and new member Rita Dorsch was sworn in for a four-year term.

The board set the following meetings dates in 2010: Jan. 5 and 12; Feb. 2 and 9; March 2 and 16; April 6 and 13; May 4 and 11; June 1 and 8; July 20; August 10 and 17; Sept. 7 and 14; Oct. 5 and 19; Nov. 2 and 9; and Dec. 7.
