Icy conditions on area roadways caused numerous accidents throughout the night yesterday, including a nine-car pileup on the Mansfield Bridge in Dravosburg.
The light snow earlier in the day and dropping temperatures have created slippery conditions here in the city as well as in surrounding areas.
The Dravosburg crash occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. The extent of injuries was unknown.
Dozens of minor accidents were reported elsewhere, including a crash that shut down Bloomfield Bridge and another on the Highland Park Bridge.
Accidents also occurred on the Thompson Run Bridge, which had to be shut down until salt trucks could arrive.
And shortly before 11 p.m., police responded to a car that rolled onto its roof at Edgebrook Avenue and Route 51/Saw Mill Run Road because of slick conditions there.
Temperatures were expected to drop to 18 degrees overnight in the Pittsburgh area, said National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Rehak. But no rain was expected and today should be dry as well, with a high of 37.
