PIAA Class AA: Centurions take advantage in win
Saturday, December 05, 2009

Greensburg Central Catholic continues to roll and is now one game away from Hershey.

David Miller rushed for 83 yards and three touchdowns as the Centurions beat District 5 champion Bedford, 49-12, in a PIAA quarterfinal last night at Windber.

The WPIAL champion Centurions (13-2) have won 10 in a row, outscoring their opposition by an average of 30.3 points.

But coach Muzzy Colosimo said his team wasn't looking past a Bedford team that had a losing record in the regular season and entered the game with a 7-6 record.

"We looked at their size and I think [GCC players] thought they were smaller than they were on film," Colosimo said. "I think the kids got a big head and thought we'd just push this team around.

"But they didn't. Bedford played hard. They made us work for it."

Miller rushed for touchdowns of 1, 19 and 23 yards -- all in the first half.

It was in the second quarter that Greensburg Central Catholic took control of the contest. The Bisons committed two of their four turnovers in that period and the Centurions outscored them, 21-0.

"You can't win a football game with four turnovers," Bedford coach Dan Smith said.

Greensburg Central quarterback Trent Hurley went 8 for 11 for 79 yards and had seven carries for 76 yards and a touchdown rushing.

The Centurions' Zach Wilson had nine rushes for 60 yards and a touchdown, and Evan Marshall had three receptions for 38 yards and a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Greensburg Central Catholic will play District 10 champion Wilmington (12-1) in the semifinals next weekend at a site and time to be determined. Wilmington, the defending PIAA champion, beat Forest Hills, 25-24, in a quarterfinal game last night.

The winner advances to the PIAA title game the following week at Hersheypark Stadium.
