Community College of Allegheny County -- North campus chapter of Psi Beta, the national honor society for psychology students in two-year colleges, has earned a 2009 Chapter Excellence Award. The award is given to all chapters meeting or exceeding Psi Beta's chapter excellence standards.

State Sen. Jane Clare Orie, R-McCandless, majority whip for the Senate's Republican Caucus, was selected to receive the prestigious Educational Excellence Award for 2009 from the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals. The award is given to a person who has been a "friend of public education" and who has made significant contributions to the attainment of educational excellence in the state's elementary and secondary schools.

Tube City IMS said its subsidiary's facility in Gent, Belgium, has achieved VCA certification and its facility in Fos Sur Mer, France has achieved Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series 18001 certification.

Kathy Bynum, vice president, Bynums Marketing & Communications Inc. received one of 50 Women of Excellence Awards from the New Pittsburgh Courier for her work as an innovative entrepreneur and philanthropist. She also serves as part of the Duquesne University Marketing Services Advisory Board, the Daniel's Den Advisory Board (a cancer outreach ministry) and the nationally known Children's Festival Chorus, as secretary of the executive board and chair of the marketing committee.
