Monday, November 30, 2009

A Butler County man was killed early yesterday when his car collided with a pickup truck on Route 308 in Cherry Township, state police said.

Michael Malachina, 19, of Kennerdell, was pronounced dead at the scene, just north of Tinker Road in Cherry.

Mr. Malachina had been driving north on Route 308 at 2:14 a.m. when his car left the road and traveled a short distance through the median. Police said it appears he tried to correct his path, losing control of the car.

The vehicle went into the southbound lanes, where it collided with the truck, driven by Kevin L. Thompson, 32, of Chicora.

Mr. Thompson and his passenger, Morgan Pennington, 48, were hospitalized after the crash. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The cause of the crash still is being investigated.
