Defenseman Kurtis Foster scored two goals last night to spark the host Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-1 victory against the New York Rangers.
Foster's first goal came on a power play at 19:24 of the first period and proved to be the winner.
His second goal of the night and third of the season came at 8:24 of the third and gave the Lightning a 5-0 lead.
Ryan Callahan scored for New York at 17:52 of the third period to spoil Mike Smith's shutout bid.
Smith finished with 26 saves.
The Rangers will face the Penguins tonight at Mellon Arena and again Monday night in New York.
Steven Stamkos scored team-high 16th for Tampa Bay, helping to spoil Rangers coach John Tortorella's first game against his former team.
Tortorella, fired by Tampa Bay after the 2007-08 season, spent seven seasons with the Lightning, leading them to the 2004 Stanley Cup title.
Marty St. Louis had three assists, and Steve Downie and Paul Szczechura also scored for the Lightning.
Ducks 3, Blackhawks 0: Teemu Selanne scored twice on the power play, defenseman Nick Boynton also connected with the man advantage and Jean-Sebastien Giguere posted his first shutout this season, leading host Anaheim to a victory that snapped Chicago's eight-game win streak. The Blackhawks had outscored their opponents, 34-13, in that streak.
Sabres 4, Flyers 2: Tim Connolly scored twice in the third period and added two assists to help visiting Buffalo beat Philadelphia and snap a four-game losing streak. Drew Stafford, and Paul Gaustad scored goals for the Sabres, who had not won a game since defeating the Flyers Nov. 14, also in Philadelphia.
Wild 5, Avalanche 3: Chuck Kobasew had a hat trick and Andrew Brunette scored the winning goal on a power play midway through the third period, leading host Minnesota to a win against Colorado.
Devils 2, Bruins 1: Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise scored shootout goals to make visiting New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur a winner on the day he became the NHL's all-time minutes leader. Brodeur, 37, surpassed Hall of Famer Patrick Roy for the most minutes played and now has 60,280. Roy played 60,235. The loss also snapped Boston's season-high four-game winning streak.
Flames 3, Red Wings 0: Miikka Kiprusoff made 40 saves for his 32nd career shutout to lift visiting Calgary to a victory against slumping Detroit, which has not scored in 153 minutes, 22 seconds.
Thrashers 6, Hurricanes 4: Rich Peverly scored the fourth of Atlanta's five third-period goals with 6:03 left to help the Thrashers rally for a win against host Carolina.
Maple Leafs 6, Panthers 4: Niklas Hagman's 13th goa at 112:26 of thie third period proved to be the winner at visiting Toronto beat Florida.
