Restaurant Openings

• Chris Bonfili, previously executive chef at the Red Room in East Liberty, has opened his own restaurant, Avenue B, in Shadyside. The "unfussy bistro" will serve "globally inspired new American cuisine." A small menu of seasonally changing staple dishes will be supplemented by daily chalkboard specials. • Bella Sera on the Square, Market Square, is now open, serving sandwiches, salads and hearty appetizers with daily soup and pasta features. There is a full bar with specialty cocktails as well as an extensive by-the-glass wine list and an interesting selection of beers, many from Pennsylvania. Wine and Dine

• The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Downtown, is holding a beer pairing dinner Wednesday benefiting the EDMC Scholarship Fund with special guest Victory Brewing Company. A 5:30 p.m. reception with selection of hors d'oeuvres paired with beer will be followed by a five-course dinner with pairings at 7 p.m. Reception only, $20; reception and dinner, $75.
