2 banks robbed in county within hour

Police in two Allegheny County municipalities are investigating robberies of two branches of the same bank within an hour of each other.

The first holdup was reported at 1:30 p.m. at the First Niagara Bank branch in the 1100 block of Fifth Avenue in East McKeesport.

The robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

About 45 minutes later, another holdup was reported in Tarentum's business section.

Police said the suspect, whose name was not released, was captured minutes after the robbery on West Seventh Avenue, Tarentum.

Police said he robbed the First Niagara Bank branch on Corbett Street at about 2:15 p.m.
