West Deer bridge reopens after emergency repairs
Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Repairs have been completed to the bridge on Bakerstown Road in West Deer that was closed Oct. 1 as a safety precaution, PennDOT announced today.

The bridge, at the Saxonburg Boulevard intersection, reopened at 1 p.m., spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

The 88-year-old structure, known as the Culmerville Truss, is owned by a railroad company, which contracted for repairs after PennDOT inspectors determined it was unsafe. The bridge carries Bakerstown Road over the Canadian National/Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad tracks and is used by about 4,500 vehicles per day.
