Township supervisors unanimously approved a preliminary budget last evening for the sewer and water funds that will collectively raise the rates by $22 per quarter for the average customer using 17,000 gallons of water per quarter.

Specifically, the water rate will be $4.61 per thousand gallons of water used, up from $3.85; the sewer rate will be $5.47 per thousand gallons of water used, up from $5.17.

The new rates will take effect in January.
