Q: It seems that Pitt's recent recruiting is much more heavily weighted to the backcourt. Given that Dante Taylor already seems to be playing out of position at center, are there any reinforcements coming at center in the future?

Adam, York, Pa.

FITTIPALDO: Pitt is still recruiting 6-foot-10 high school senior Maurice Walker, one of the top center prospects in the country. Walker did not sign during the NCAA early signing period and now must wait until the spring to officially commit to a school. Pitt might be over the scholarship limit by one if JJ moore qualifies, so the coaching staff would have to tell one of the current members of the team that it is in their best interests to leave the program and go to a school where they can play. Jamie Dixon does not do that all that often, although he did it with Cassin Diggs two years ago when it became apparent that he would never contribute significantly to the program.

Either way, I would not be too concerned with Taylor playing out of position. People said DeJuan Blair was playing out of position at center for two seasons, and it did not seem to hurt him or the team during his time at Pitt. Had it not been for his knees, Blair would have been one of the top 15 players selected in the draft. He fell to the second round only because teams were concerned about his long-term health. Even though Taylor won't be playing center in the NBA, it does not mean that he can't be an effective college center.
