Inquest planned in death following arrest
Monday, November 23, 2009

The Washington County coroner will hold an inquest in the death of a man who was shocked by a Taser during an altercation with police last week.

Ronald Petruney, 49, of Washington, died Saturday at Washington Hospital, county Coroner S. Timothy Warco said. Mr. Petruney was in cardiac arrest when he was admitted to the hospital Tuesday, Mr. Warco said.

Washington police found Mr. Petruney "in a confused state" when they were summoned to an incident on Jefferson Avenue, Mr. Warco said. Mr. Petruney "became combative with police," and was shocked with the Taser, the coroner said.

The inquest will take place when the coroner completes an autopsy report on Mr. Petruney's death.
